The Magnificent 7 (hmmmm)

Newcastle are understood to have received seven offers for the club by non-British investors, with the bids being reviewed this week.

Advisers Seymour Pierce will be looking into the offers on behalf of the football club, with a Nigerian consortium said to be leading the bidding after confirming their interest in the Magpies.

Current owner Mike Ashley is looking for around £350million for his stake in the club and its unclear as to whether any of the offers on the table have matched that amount.

Newcastle fans are in the strange position of waiting for news on what is seemingly an auction for their club, with former owner Sir John Hall concerned about the state of the game.

Sir John told the Telegraph: “Roman Abramovich (Chelsea’s owner) changed the game for ever.

”There’s nobody in Britain wealthy enough who’d be interested in investing in a football club. Who has this sort of mega-money?”

Hall added: ”Even Mike Ashley was finding it difficult with his wealth because £200 million is a lot of money. Premier League clubs are being bought as toys.”
