Are Scunny going to do a Wolves?
SCUNTHORPE United boss Nigel Adkins has admitted he will be looking at the ‘big picture’ when he chooses his side for the clash with Newcastle United tonight.
Adkins refused to confirm that leading scorer Gary Hooper would be back for the trip to the league leaders, despite the striker being spotted in full training gear at Glanford Park yesterday.
There is no greater test in the Championship at the minute than a game at St James’ Park, with the Iron manager suggesting there may be changes to his team, with clashes against relegation rivals Plymouth Argyle and Peterborough United on the horizon.
“We have to have an eye on the Plymouth game and we have to have an eye on the Peterborough game because that’s the big picture,” said Adkins.
“It is that interesting dilemma when making sure you have got the players ready for Saturday’s game but you have got to go one game at a time.
“I am always looking at the big picture to make sure we stay in this division for next season.
“All the players will be desperate to play at Newcastle.
“It’s the same as being in a cup final, they all want to play at Newcastle.
“I have got to make that decision which is right for the team to make sure we go up there with a chance to win it and likewise I have got to make sure we give ourselves the chance to win on Saturday and next Tuesday.”
