The twenty-five shits of Christmas - days 24 and 25

It would be rude not to complete this on Christmas Day, and of course rude not to include the two total turkeys who started our incredible descent towards the abyss…

Days 24 and 25 are…Xisco and Nacho Gonzales.

Xisco signed from Deportivo for £5.7m by Dennis Wise, and Nacho Gonzales signed on loan from Valencia - both transfers not being approved by then-manager Kevin Keegan. The signing of Gonzales in particular, which was completed as a favour to two South American agents, was the final straw for KK and saw him resign. Nacho played a grand total of two sub appearances, and Xisco managed 7 games and one goal, but both were clearly not of the standard required for NUFC. Nacho buggered off back to Valencia and Xisco is now on loan at Racing Santander, but as they both rebuild their careers, United are still recovering from the fallout - the loss of KK, the appointment of Kinnear and the subsequent relegation.

Two disasterous signings which completely undermined any sort of sense in the appointment of Wise and Mike Ashley’s management structure.
