Under 18’s all square at Leeds

A second half strike from James Baxendale secured Leeds United under-18s a deserved point against Newcastle United on Saturday.

Baxendale finished off a superb move in the 71st minute to ensure honours ended even with a 2-2 draw.

The midfielder had a hand in United’s first-half opener - Sam Jones scoring - but after enjoying some more good pressure, hitting the woodwork twice, United conceded twice before the break to give Newcastle the advantage.

United continued to pass the ball well and were rewarded 19 minutes from time with Baxendale’s leveller.

Under-18s coach Neil Redfearn said: “It was a great team performance and the lads passed the ball superbly well.

“Performances have steadily improved since the Youth Cup disappointment and this has been reflected in our climb up the table.”
