NUFC 1-0 Sheff Wed

So another Shola goal and another clean-sheet victory would suggest a comfortable night at Park St James’ for NUFC - but last night’s result certainly masks the performance.

A disjointed United struggled against a well-organised and disciplined Wednesday, for whom the front two of Johnson and Tudgay looked very lively. Shola’s fourth goal in two games was enough the clinch it, but United struggled badly in the midfield and Coloccini again looked dangerously inept at the back.

If we’re to get promoted this season, we need to see some goals from all over the park and at the moment, the midfield doesn’t look like it will bag many (if any), and with Carroll again looking toothless up-front, Hughton (and any potential manager) will need to think long and hard before the end of the transfer window.
